Church doesn't suck

What's the buzz around Wichita? A billboard from Gracepoint Church that states "Church Doesn't Suck". What do you think? To tell you the truth, I was more surprised at the pastor's name, Bryson Butts. Hope his sister's name isn't Bertha. A reporter was on the news last night interviewing people to see what they think. Two people said they were offended and wouldn't go to that church. When they interviewed the pastor, he said those aren't the people whom he's trying to reach. Hmmm... Good comeback.

Good for him! (I still think church sucks.)

Maybe it should have said...

"Think church sucks? Maybe you are going to the wrong church!"

Although it does remind me of one of my favorite quotes but I am afraid I can't remember the source of it. It says something like "Jesus wanted a Kingdom and all we gave him was a church"

Nattyman,

"Jesus wanted a Kingdom and all we gave him was a church"

If I bought into Christianity, I would worry that Jesus was so dejected by this world.

"On rare occasions there are those willing to commit a form of spiritual suicide in the Christian subculture. Men and women who will yell from the rooftops, "Church sucks!" Although they are heard, their voices are quickly dismissed and rarely see the light of day. They are labeled fanatics and troublemakers and are asked not to come back. Christ yelled the same type of thing once. It got him killed. This conversation is on the tips of all sorts of tongues: your fellow churchgoers, your neighbors, your spouse, your kids your friends. And the most important part of this conversation is what you will say. Welcome to the conversation. "

This is a quote from the opening of a book called "Starving Jesus" (http://www.starvingjesus.com)

I used this quote as part of a sermon I preached last June in a church where I was the Worship Pastor for 5 years. 2 days later I was fired.

Yeah, I think church definitely sucks. And that Gracepoint video helps to prove it (so cheesy and predictable!)

Thankfully, Jesus does NOT suck!
